ST. JAMES' ALTAR GUILD

St. James' Altar Guild prepares the altar for any services held in our church.  When the candles are lit, someone filled them with oil; when you listen to the lessons, we marked the book to the correct pages; when we have communion, the altar was prepared; when you are opener, we filled the cruets and breadbox and placed them on the back table for you to carry forward; when there is a funeral or a wedding, the behind the scenes arrangements have been made by Altar Guild.  We polish the silver  and brass, wash and iron the linens, dust and polish the altar, water any plants or flowers, change the hangings for church seasons, and put up the hymn numbers.  If you don't really notice us, it probably means we are doing a good job.

Members of the congregation continue to donate the cost of oil for the candles as a way of honoring loved ones, which helps to defray the cost of the oil.  A sign-up sheet is posted on the door to the office -- it will show which weeks are still available.

We also seek donations to cover the cost of both the lilies and poinsettias used to decorate St. James' for Easter and Christmas and have been greatly blessed that our church members have embraced this project.  Special altar flowers are always possible [except during Lent and Advent] and we all know that St. James' looks especially lovely with flowers on the altar.  Contact Donna Hostetler or Artie Clark to make arrangements.

This is such a rewarding way to serve St. James' throughout the year, both on a personal/spiritual level and as a benefit to our church.  We would welcome anyone who wishes to participate in this ministry at St. James'
